Staff and shoppers at Sainsbury's Local on Holburn Street, which has chosen Integrate as its local charity of the year, have ben furiously collecting and donating food for those in the community who struggle to get by from week to week for a number of months.
Today, staff at the store, dressed in festive attire, presented Integrate with 2 full crates of non-perishable food items and essential hygiene products. It's clear that the staff at the shop take pride in their food collection point and are genuinely interested in how the food is used and who it is helping from the way they enthusiastically explain the work of Integrate to their customers.
Donors have been generous and amazingly thoughtful, the crates are not just full of beans and pasta (although we love beans and pasta - as do our clients!) but they also contain fancy biscuits, Christmas pies and women’s hygiene products. It's so encouraging to see the community providing more than just the basics for those who have nothing this Christmas, but putting real thought into what people might really need and what might bring a smile to someone’s face - what an outpouring of love - it's amazing!
Storehouse doesn't hold onto or stockpile food, if we have food and there's a need for it, it's given away. Usually our cupboard completely fills and empties again each week. At this time of year, we love to be able to provide the basics and maybe a bit more, something that will really make someone feel special, valued and loved. If you are donating to Storehouse this Sunday, please consider buying something like that along with the usual basics if you can!
